IPL 2026 engaged the entire country with exciting and fun-filled IPL matches from 28th March 2026 till 31st May 2026. It was the 19th edition of the IPL, and to get all relevant IPL cricket news and the latest updates, check out CBTF.

10 teams battled it out in a total of 74 matches across 13 venues, with the final played on 31st May 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets to win the IPL trophy for the second year in a row. The ten IPL teams 2026 and their 2026 captains were:

  • Chennai Super Kings – Ruturaj Gaikwad
  • Delhi Capitals – Axar Patel
  • Punjab Kings – Shreyas Iyer
  • Kolkata Knight Riders – Ajinkya Rahane
  • Mumbai Indians – Hardik Pandya
  • Rajasthan Royals – Riyan Parag
  • Royal Challengers Bengaluru – Rajat Patidar
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad – Pat Cummins
  • Gujarat Titans – Shubman Gill
  • Lucknow Super Giants – Rishabh Pant

As in the last few seasons, the BCCI split the 10 teams into two virtual groups of five. Each team played 14 league matches, and the top four went through to the playoffs: Qualifier 1, the Eliminator, Qualifier 2 and the Final.

All the 10 teams topped up their squads at the mini-auction held in Abu Dhabi on 16th December 2025. Kolkata Knight Riders made Australian all-rounder Cameron Green the most expensive overseas player in IPL auction history at INR 25.20 crore, and also bought Matheesha Pathirana for INR 18 crore. Chennai Super Kings paid INR 14.20 crore each for two uncapped players, Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma, a joint record for uncapped players.

The biggest move of the off-season came before the auction, when Sanju Samson was traded from Rajasthan Royals to Chennai Super Kings, with Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran going the other way.

The latest IPL news and updates for IPL 2027 have already started. Teams must submit their retention lists by 15th November 2026, and the mini-auction will be held in Goa on 16th December 2026. It is the last mini-auction before the mega auction for IPL 2028. The 2027 season is expected to start towards the end of March 2027.

After RCB's back-to-back titles, Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals, who all made the 2026 playoffs, look like the teams to beat, while five-time champions Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians will want to bounce back after finishing eighth and ninth.
